Luserna |
Luserna
, 333 m a.s.l. - 8,28 kmq
the last Cimbro island of the Alps: the ancient German-based language is still in daily use at Luserna.
Its origins as an organized community go back to the 18th C. and its history includes difficult times of emigration, options and the First World War, fought on its doorstep. Significant witness to the great world conflict is seen in Fort Lusérn, on the top of Cima Campo, and in the Costalta militarycemetery. In a wonderful natural setting, the Luserna plateau is developing its own special tourist trade for both summer and winter.
Sights to see
the Centro di Documentazione (museum and cultural activity venue), Haus von Prükk (faithfully restored typical 19th C. Cimbro dwelling), the Istituto Cimbro, Costalta military cemetery, Forte Lusérn, the Malga Campo mountain hut and the town centre with its examples of the skills of the Lavarone stonecutters.Summer
Luserna is a summer and winter resort.
In summer the ideal place for a relaxing holiday and full immersion in the alpine nature of the plateau, it is also an ideal location for a holiday based on Cimbro gastronomy (the area has many excellent restaurants). |
