Guardia, the painted village |
Guardia
is an ancient rural village of Cimbro origins. Tradition has it that the village grew from a guard station (which gives it its name) that served the astle of Beseno. Guardia is known as the painted town, due to the murals painted on the ancient walls of the houses in the various exhibitions of the art of mural painting that the town has hosted since 1988.
The artist, sculptor and poet Cirillo Grott was born at Guardia. is works can be seen in the artist’s studio and at the Grott Stube, a quality restaurant run by his family.
Sights to see The church dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua (early 20th C), the spectacular Hofentol waterfall, the Marangon workshop (Ugo Grott, skilled wood carver), the murals along the streets of the town, and Casa Grott, an artist’s studio.
